THE OIKOS
Ephesians 2:19-22
Our House is Connected to God
Galatians 6: 9-10
Our House Won’t Grow Weary
Joshua 24: 15
Our House Will Serve the Lord
Everyone knows the 2nd chapter of Ephesians for verse 8, “For by grace you have been saved through faith.” This is a powerful truth that Christian faith cannot deny. Thanks be to God. But verse 19 also reminds us that we are more than just a pretty face in the crowd. Verse 19 says, we are first class citizens of the “Household of God.” We are family members of a home built on faith, hope, and love. At Monte Pres, we want you to feel at home. We are a family of faithful believers united in Christ and connected to God.
Monte Pres was once First Presbyterian Church of Montesano. Our congregation was founded in 1889. MPC is a historical church that has stood the test of time; it has seen history as it unfolded through wars, a depression, the rise and fall of industry, and now a global pandemic. MPC has not grown weary in doing what is best for Grays Harbor and our immediate community. MPC works for the good of all people, especially for those of our Household, but more so, for the children of God who have yet to experience his grace.
This final chapter in Joshua is a portrait in the homes of many faithful believers these days. It reminds us of the blessing of family, the seriousness of caring for each other and ultimately who we serve. As for me and my house, we serve God. The other important aspect of this passage is the promise it makes and the promise it keeps. Joshua is reinstating the covenant between God and Moses. He is remembering what Jesus calls the greatest commandment, “to Love the Lord with all your heart, strength, and mind” and to love others the same.
